Before you begin
-
Set up a Gaming video creator Page.
-
Choose an encoder. Ideally, using a dedicated appliance encoder such as a Wowza ClearCaster will provide the most reliable streaming experience. If an appliance encoder is not an option, other software encoders that you can download include OBS, XSplit and Streamlabs OBS.
Note: If you download and use a software encoder, make sure that you only run the necessary software on your machine for the optimal streaming experience.
Steps
-
Go to the Creator Portal.
-
Click Create live stream.
-
Under Choose where to post your live broadcast, select your gaming video creator Page.
-
Copy the stream key and/or server URL and paste into the settings of your streaming software.
-
Don't share your stream key. Anyone who has access to it can stream video to your post.
-
-
Under Service, select Facebook Live.
-
Go to your streaming software and start streaming. You'll see a preview of your stream on Facebook where the server URL and stream key are displayed.
-
In the Creator Portal, tag the game and write a description for your followers.
-
Click Go Live to begin your stream.
Stream from a console on Facebook Live
Facebook supports streaming from a computer, as well as from any gaming console that has an HDMI port. If you want to stream from a gaming console, you'll need a piece of hardware called a capture card.
We recommend the Elgato HD60S or HD60Pro capture card if you want to stream from your gaming console using OBS or XSplit. HD60 capture cards will stream at 1080 p.
If you're streaming from an Xbox, you can stream directly from your console using Xbox Mixer. In this case, you don't need a capture card.
Stream from a gaming console
-
Buy a capture card. We recommend Elgato HD60S or HD60Pro.
-
Link up the capture card to your computer.
-
Install the software.
-
Connect an HDMI cable from the console to the capture card.
-
Connect a second HDMI cable from the capture card to a monitor or TV. Now the console will send a video signal directly to your monitor or TV. This shouldn't interrupt your gameplay or cause any lag.
-
Next, follow the implementation steps. You have two options: OBS or XSplit.
-
Choose Capture card as your source.
-
Go live. You can go live from Elgato software as well.
